Why You Shouldn’t Try the Keto Diet
Have you tried the Keto diet yet?
If you’ve been living under a rock, it’s the high fat – low carb diet that’s taking the weight loss internet by storm.
Celebrities including Halle Berry, Mick Jagger, Kim Kardashian and NBA stars like Kobe Bryant all love it.
While functional doctors believe it could be the answer to the obesity epidemic, as well as reduce rates of diabetes, heart disease and many other chronic health problems.
As Dr Mercola says, “Ketogenic diet is not only ideal for people who are suffering from chronic illness or obesity, but also for those who simply want to optimize their health. This dietary approach can help improve your well-being in more ways than one.”
But…throwing all the processed junk and fast food in the trash and living off healthy fats, nuts and vegetables is easier said than done.
Like any diet, Keto can be tough to stick with, particularly if you try to switch too fast.
1. Keto Flu
Studies on rats have found that processed sugar can be as addictive as cocaine. And if you try cutting carbs and sugars too fast, the withdrawal can be like coming off a class A drug.
Symptoms include nausea, headaches, insomnia, low energy, mood swings, digestive problems, bloating and generally feeling lousy.
These symptoms, known as the Keto flu, can last for weeks.
You can reduce them, though, if you increase your carbs every few days. This is known as “carb cycling”.
2. Mineral Deficincy
When you start the Keto diet the weight lost in the first few weeks will be half body fat and half water. Unfortunately, this also depletes key nutrients, like potassium, sodium and magnesium.
As with the Keto flu, depleted minerals can make you feel tired, drained and run down.
You can avoid this happening, however, by either topping up your mineral levels with supplements or getting nutrients naturally, from foods like bananas, shellfish and leafy vegetables.
Could the Keto Diet Transform Your Life?
So you see, switching to Keto isn’t as simple as picking up a Keto recipe book and going cold turkey on processed foods.
Yet, when you can do it successfully, you can look forward to losing weight without the food cravings, deprivation or misery of normal dieting.
Even better, the weight you lose will be toxic visceral fat. This is the fat that smothers your kidneys, lungs and heart and increases your risk of chronic disease. So as your body burns off fat as energy, it can reverse many health problems at the same time.
In fact, Keto helped one man to reverse the symptoms of his diabetes, cure his liver disease and even get off his meds altogether.
If you’ve tried countless diets in the past without success and are desperate to lose weight and keep it off, in the following article I reveal a system for adopting Keto gradually. This system also helps you to avoid the withdrawal symptoms you’d experience doing it too quickly. Instead, you can look forward to sustainable weight loss, getting a body you feel proud of and improvements to your all round health:
