10 cent pill could slash coronavirus death toll, say scientists
Scientists all over the world are testing dozens of medicines to see if any can help fight the Covid-19 plague.
This includes a pill that’s normally given to gout sufferers to ease toe inflammation and pain.
They cost as little as 10 cents per day… yet scientists hope they may offer a breakthrough in dousing the “inflammatory storm” in people’s lungs.
In fact, two major trials are now underway, in Canada and Greece, to see if the pills can save hundreds of thousands of lives.
“If there is a significant benefit, the study could be stopped early.” said Dr Jean-Claude Tardif, from the Montreal Heart Institute. “It’s cheap, widely available we think it might very well work as it’s a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.”
